Wait what?! How did they was it just...sitting around? A shucking griever in a shucking jar sounds like somethin Frypan'd threaten us with for dinner it *fits*?
[ Ring, ring, ring. Dial tone, of course. Thomas gives a shaky exhale, silence on his end for awhile before he lets out a humorless, self-loathing laugh. ]
I -- I knew you wouldn't pick up, I knew that, of course I knew that, I knew that. I'm, I know you probably won't ever get this, sorry if you do, you can just ignore it -- I'm really sorry, real, real sorry. Minho's dead, did you know? I don't know if you did. He's dead and -- and you're dead, and it's all my fault, Newt, all my fault. I -- how can I keep doing this to the, the people that I love? You're gone and Minho's gone and I'm -- I'm scared, Newt, I've never been this scared in my whole entire life, not when I woke up in the Glade or anything. I don't even know where Teresa is, she might be dead too. What should I do? What is there to do?
[ It's all said out in one heavy breath, but Thomas finally pauses and breathes for a second, rocking back and forth from where he's curled up on the floor, shaky breaths, shaky voice. ]
Guess I just -- miss you, or. Yeah, that's it. I kissed Minho, you know. Guess -- guess you were always right about that, ha. I wish, wish you guys were here with me, but this is all I've got for right now so -- so sorry, this is dumb, I should just --
[ the celluar service in the tower is a load of klunk. it takes newt four tries to try and send a message back, to try and even listen to thomas's, and when he finally does, it breaks his heart. all of it--the panic in thomas's voice, the way he talks about minho, the fact that newt had to do this to him in the first place.
he can't connect to thomas's line straight out, but the voicemail comes through, and newt's voice appears, broken at first by static, but there. ] --mmy, it's Newt, I'm here. Woke up in some bloody tower, but I'm here, and Minho's with me, we're fine. We're okay.
[ unfortunately, a tiny voice says in the back of his head, but he shoves it down. he should have known better, and he didn't; the best he can do is lift his head and keep going, do it for minho and do it for thomas and even for teresa. (at least, now that minho's slapped him across the face and told him to stop being a shank about it. he's feeling a little more normal, now.)
but newt's voice takes on a soft tinge, hurt and guilt wadding up in the back of his throat. ] Tommy, I'm sorry. It shoulda never come to that, and I know you told me not to thank you, but, you...you really are the real leader, y'know that? You're the best bloody friend I've ever had.
[ he feels like he might cry if he thinks about it too much--thomas was a gift, he really was, a little light of joy in that hellhole that had been the glade. his saving grace, his leader, his friend. ] We'll see you soon, yeah? They have to let us out eventually. Still stuck in bloody Denouement, means you're not getting rid of me that easy.
[ newt's quiet for a second--the static picks up. ] --ve you too, Tommy, I really do. Like a shuck brother. I gotta go [ krrzzt ] Phone's dyin. Be safe.
[ there's a loud burst of static, and then silence. ]
[ that's okay, nico--so's newt. at least the bloody field is a familiar place--reminds him of home. by the time he gets down off the shucking post, he opens his phone to answer. ]
Hey, Nico--everything's fine. Got picked up by the bloody technicians again, but we're out, now. There's...someone here who knows you, Jason Grace? Talked to him a little, and then someone else, too.
Are you alright? We should be makin it back into town in a little bit.
[ but there's no small amount of relief in him to hear that Newt met up with Jason; it means that both of them were alright, and Bianca by extension of Jason, and the worry drains out of him. not completely, not fully, but enough that the tension in his shoulders begin to ease. ]
Does... that mean you met Bianca, if you saw Jason?
Yeah, I did. [ newt sounds a little relieved, too--he was worried about nico, after everything that happened in the bunker. and with the weight in his voice, he can only think that all of his assumptions about bianca di angelo might have been right.
something in him twinges, for the sister he can't remember, and for the di angelos both. ] She's lovely. We kept her safe, if you're worried. They should be coming soon.
[ his voice is a little softer, a little more gentle. ] Seems like a lot of people came in this time 'round. If you need anything, you just let me know, yeah? Anything at all.
[ he stresses it--a person to talk to, help, anything. his affection for both of the di angelo siblings is massive, particularly nico, and newt will take him under his wing for as long as he needs to be sheltered. ]
( assuming that the young man in the gun sight is a recent arrival, rather than bother trying to figure out who it is, harry punches in 036 » 001 through to 036 » 200 and sends them all the following message with the attached footage: )
This is your captain speaking, the Oxygen Gardens are about to experience some severe localized turbulence for one passenger in particular. I would strongly advise that if this is you, you should probably - at a minimum - consider ducking.
Are you on the ship? Can't say I've ever met a Gabrielle round here before Then again, I don't know everyone, I guess. Proper sorry if we've met before.
